March 16, 2006 entered the history of Azerbaijan as a day of substantial importance: the Second Congress of World Azerbaijanis took place in the capital Baku of Azerbaijan. On this occasion, the Azerbaijani people living in various countries of the world got together in Azerbaijan, came to understand the problems of the the Mother Land more deeply, got involved in broad discussions and public debates, made crucial decisions and decided on their future perspectives and plans of actions. The invitees of the Congress were the cornerstones of the Azerbaijani Diaspora--the Azeri people living abroad and doing creative jobs for Azerbaijan. Among the invitees were also the foreign friends of Azerbaijan who has done favorable things for this country. Among the participants of the Congress arriving from about 50 countries, Azerbaijan-Japan Friendship Association--the organization that promotes Azerbaijan in Japan were present too. Three members were invited from the AJFA to the Congress: The founder and president of the AJFA Dr.Rahman Shahhuseynli, the Honorary President of the AJFA Mr.Toshiyuki Fujiwara, and a member of the AJFA Dr.Tomoaki Murakami. On the day of the Congress president of the AJFA Dr.R.Shahhuseynli met President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and delivered the hearty greetings of the Azeri people living in Japan to his Excellency. Dr.R.Shahhuseynli also told his Excellency that the Azeris living in Japan wished to meet him during his recent visit to Japan (7-10 March, 2006) and officially requested relevant government bodies to organize such a meeting. However, they were bitterly disappointed that such a meeting was not organized. Dr.R.Shahhuseynli also met with a range of top officials of Azerbaijan, talked with them about the AJFA and the Azeris living in Japan, and listened to their ideas and suggestions.
During and after the
Congress the Azerbaijani public were broadly informed of the AJFA and of its
activities in Japan via media.

Televiziya" (Public TV), ANS
TV, ATV, LIDER
TV, and interviews were given to some dozens of
newspapers and
