On
March 9th, 2007, The First Forum of Azerbaijan and Turkey Diaspora Leaders'
Forum, the event of utmost importance for the entire Turkic World, was held
in the Republican Palace named after Heydar Aliyev in Baku city. Along with the leaders
of Azerbaijan and Turkey Diaspora organizations from 48 countries President
of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of Turkey Mr. Rajab Tayyip
Erdogan, and Leader of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Mr.
Mehmet Ali Talat participated in the forum. Some dozens of guests and
officials from foreign countries, ministers, parliamentarians, and
well-known faces also attended the forum. The portrait of the founder of the
Republic of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and a quotation from him "Joys and
sorrows of Azerbaijan are ours." were hung up in the left corner of the
stage and the portrait of the nationwide leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev
and his quotation "We are one nation but two states." were hung up in the
right corner of the stage. For
the first time the palace
was witnessing the case of such a great solidarity,
unity, and brotherhood.

Dr. Rahman Shahhuseynli represented the Association in the Forum. The
official part of the Forum lasted for about 2 hours. Afterwards, the
delegates were taken to Park Inn Hotel where they discussed a joint
working mechanism for Diaspora organizations of Azerbaijan and Turkey. A
joint working strategy, several documents, and declarations of historical
importance were adopted followed by all-inclusive and comprehensive
discussions and brainstorming.
After the hard working day of Forum a state banquet in honor of
President of Azerbaijan was given to the participants including President
himself, ministers, parliamentarians, and guests and leaders from Turkey and
TRNC. The banquet was followed by a firework held at the Baku boulevard.
Thus, the First Forum of Diaspora Organizations Leaders of
Azerbaijan and Turkey was successfully finished. The Second Forum of this
kind was decided to be held in Turkey.
